Cordless laser barcode scanners use an integrated radio to communicate with a base station or a computer. The most popular is Bluetooth with a range of up to 300', corded but a few models use an analog radio with frequencies ranging from 900 MHz to 2.4 GHz. If the base station is used for communication as well as charging, corded it will connect to a computer with a USB, corded PS/2 (keyboard wedge), corded or serial RS232 cable. The brightness and sharpness of cordless laser barcode scanners offer greater preciseness and visibility when targeting a barcode, especially in bright light. Laser scanners are also available in several variations to meet the needs of special applications, such as long range or high density scanning.
